Agree wholeheartedly with the above, particularly the part about fabricating brainless, spineless male characters in order to make the females look more dominating... Anyone who has kids can probably attest to the fact that there hasn't been a strong, intelligent male hero in kids' movies in years... (Have you seen "The Incredibles 2"?) Even the superhero genre - which supposedly bases characters on their original comic book roles - does so a bit apologetically, giving the men humorous flaws while giving females the upper hand as much as possible.
