Do you like the song "Somewhere Over the Rainbow"? I've heard some really good (and unique) versions of the song. But Eva Cassidy's is by far my favorite:

I love the song in the movie, wizard of Oz, but out of that context, hmmm, not really. Let's see, there's another I'll post as well.

Re: Favorite music
I've got another one since I know how much y'all like my music.
Don't usually go for country music, but I have this weird thing about Toby Keith (See, there was this guy back in college who liked me to call him daddy... Uh, never mind...)
This one reminds me of 'When You Comin' Back, Range Rider?' Cowboy vigilantes.

I'm not a huge country fan, either - but I do like country-flavored rock.

Re: Favorite music
Speaking of songs...I have this song in my head that won't go away but damned if I know what it's called. About a week ago I was stopping by a club to drop something off to my brother who was there singing some karaoke. There wasn't that many people there and I was asked to sing one song. I was looking through the book when the DJ or whatever announced they were having a round of what's called "Suicide Karaoke" and I was picked to sing a song that I wouldn't be given the name of but that the lyrics should be up on the monitor anyway but I had to sing it.
Naturally, the screen lyrics on this particular song had a bad disc so while the music played alright, the words were choppy and it was literally like trying to read Morse code. But the tune is a well known one, and while I sang it, I had to insert my own lyrics because it has been so many years, even decades since I heard it last. So if I post what I sang, would it be possible that someone here might know what the song is called?
This is really bugging me...

Re: Favorite music
Thanks in advance for helping me if you can solve this, and I did sing this with the meter of the song and the notes and everything - I know the tune and I could hum it for you and everything I just don't remember what the name of it was...
Alright here goes, West someplace far
Some big mountain, pretty sure there's a mountain
Where are the words? Oh cannot see them
Yonder the screen flickers, going berzerk jeez
What's this soooong? Wish I knew!
To a tune I recall!
Some state's name here
Holy mama, what's the words, it's so weird
It's chicken scratch, no, now it's blah
Wasn't there this strange cave dude in water?
Some dust bunny, painting a Monet
And folks drink some moonshine, then cry with an eye
What's this soooong? etc
I've heard this song in the long lost past, it calls me
Something about a radio far away
Driving around some back road and maybe
Going to retrieve said radio, in the day?
What's this soooong? Wish I knew!
To a tune I recall!
Olivia, Newton-John, she sang this, didn't she?

Re: Favorite music
In response to the weather yesterday, i'm dedicating "another one bites the dust" by Queen to all the drivers crazy enough to drive in it and especially those that ended up in the ditches.
Good news, no shovelling. We'll be ice-picking this weekend.

Thanks Flygirl!
Well there was laughter and the DJ himself was doubled over, holding his gut. Of course I wasn't laughing because I was literally wracking my brain to remember the words and decided; screw it. I'll just wing it. Haha.

You get the title "Most Likely to Wing it With Style."

LOL and it only works in the context in which it came about. It's not what I'd call a parody because it has no direction or plot. But in the context of a "Suicide Karaoke" it works like that because you could have a small group of old peoples, or semi old, like myself, who might have a few memory issues and cannot remember all the words of something and then being put on the spot like that.
And I don't know if anyone else knows what Suicide Karaoke is, but it's like a game the DJ plays with the singers and the interpreters of songs. Usually a jar is passed around with little notes in it where a song title is written down, and everyone is made to pick from the jar. Whatever song you picked, you sing. Even if you don't really know it.
On this particular night, the DJ just called up people at random and basically he'd put the song on and you sang it. But everyone else got songs from a good disc. The one I got, it obviously needed to be cleaned with that spray stuff for discs. I mean, Best Buy carries all kinds of stuff like that! :/
But fortunately I am good at thinking up lyrics on the spot. I actually wrote a very good parody to the song "Stars Are Blind" by Paris Hilton and set the words around the movie "Cabin Boy". I think it makes good copy haha. And although I'm not really into all those celebrities and their musical adventures, I actually like that song. I adore tropical sounds and sunny stuff like that.

Ok ... this is wrong for a lot of reasons. First of all it is a commercial for KFC, however corny BUT this video is sooo cleverly made and so beautifully sung ... sigh!

Stop me please because I can go on forever!
I can watch this DVD over and over ... They must have had the night of their lives playing together like that ... how they start jamming around minute 2.30 ... Oh man what I would have given to be in that audience that night!

Re: Favorite music
You may have heard of or at least suspected my irrational love for Carpenters music (thanks to my mom, who had such a hard time starting "Close to You" on pitch that it became an inside joke). Well, yesterday I came up with a theory that I could find a Carpenters song to go with every movie/TV show I've seen with Dirk in it (maybe I'd already gotten a head start? ). Then I went ahead and proved my theory. Below is the result, and a link to a YouTube playlist with all the songs included. Don't know whether any of you guys are Carpenters fans, but if so, more song suggestions are welcome. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm gonna go bury my head in the sand - after putting my earbuds in, of course.
1. Happy* (BSG "Saga of a Star World")
2. All of My Life (Sssssss!)
3. Look to Your Dreams (BSG)
4. Love Me for What I Am* (Ruckus)
5. Slow Dance (Underground Aces)
6. Close to You* (A-Team)
7. Nowhere Man (Mark of the Devil)
8. Ordinary Fool (A-Team "Only Church in Town" and/or "Hot Styles")
9. Sailing on the Tide* (Trenchcoat in Paradise)
10. Dancing in the Street* (Body Slam)
Carpenters Soundtrack
* Personal favorites
