Achtung! April in Brühl...
Isn't the song supposed to be "April in Paris"?
I've been in a mood this weekend - too much fun at others' expense, maybe...
But in addition to his December trip to England, Dirk has booked his first 2017 appearance - in Brühl, Germany!
April 1-2, 2017
SPRING CON
Phantasialand, Brühl, Germany
Phantasialand
Berggeiststraße 31-41
50321 Brühl
https://www.springcon.events/
This looks like it'll be a fun one, too - and I hope this makes you happy, LMD!

LMD, how hard is it for you to convert money? Will your local bank do it, just US dollars to euros?

I absolutely want to go to Brühl and finally meet Dirk and I was wondering if anyone else is planning on going ???? Are you going for one day or two? Will you be spending the night near Brühl? I'm kinda curious ....

Was hoping to make it. Working on details and if I'm flying to Deutschland, it will be for about a week...give or take. It depends on flights and work. Do you want me to update you when I known for sure? I can fly into the Netherlands and take a train to Bruhl. Not a problem.

You can do it at the airport. They usually have a currency exchange right there. A bank will also do it. Wonder if my Deutsch marks are still good.... LOL

Yes they should have one there. Well I know we have one at our airport.
Belgium has the same currency as Germany, so I don't need to do that.
LOL ...

Re: Achtung! April in Brühl...
My husband has given his okay haha. I could take the train to Antwerpen and ride with you LMD? We can take turns driving.
Do we travel back the same day or book a hotel?
Yes there is a currency exchange on every Dutch airport.
In europe there is only one type of currency, not taking pounds into account as the UK is going to Brexit.

Awesome Mine has too !!! I'd love to travel together. What a great idea. Would you be able to take the train to Mechelen (from Antwerp)? It's easier to meet up there and especially to park the car
I'm still thinking about that one ... I think the Springcon ends at 6, but I'm not too keen on driving in the dark. So I was thinking about spending the night and returning home the next morning. My travel agency offers three possibilities: two in Phantasialand (but they're very expensive in my opinion) and one about 2 km from the park (and they're much cheaper). Oh I'm so excited to meet up

Thanks! That's so sweet of you I hope we will. I do promise that. I would so love to re-visit the US again. Our goal would be July or August 2018. We have a wedding anniversary that year, so it would be cool to do a big, long trip instead of a party with the family

I understand. Flying to the US from Europe isn't cheap. We have one advantage. As my husband often flies around the world he gains airmiles which we are allowed to use whenever we want to fly. That way we end up saving a lot of money. At least that compensates for not having home that much

Re: Achtung! April in Brühl...
As April gets closer, preparations for Bruhl are underway. We are working on the German, but my question is "what to wear". When I was in Europe before, I was told not to wear jeans or tennis shoes as they are clear indicators of being American. It was true. (Another experiment) I tested it and would walk up to strangers and first question was "you are American, aren't you?" I was never wrong and I did it in multiple cities and countries. It showed me how easily Americans are identified. Hoping for safe travel for all that are lucky enough to make it to Bruhl, is there any advice that they should know?
