LEGEND SOCCER COMPANY
Do you like soccer (or, as the rest of the world calls it, football)? Dirk does in a big way, and it has become a family affair.

Dirk's son Roland and 2 friends have started Legend Soccer Company,  developing innovative, sustainable soccer gear (and only soccer gear). Learn about Legend Soccer Company at the link above. Dirk not only endorses Legend Soccer, he's involved with it - "and not only because Roland is my son."

Default New (old?) interview

Hey folks,

just found this interview on Youtube that apparently was uploaded yesterday.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qhhy-Nnkfng

I think it's an older one tho, probably in the early 2000er or so.

I didn't like the interviewer that much, cutting Dirk off often and asking some intrusive questions. But I wanna share it anyways with you guys. Maybe I'm just too sensitive... whatcha think?

Good one! Howard Stern, 1998 I think... Dirk's a good guest for Howard because the random, intense personal/sexual questions don't fluster him.

Interesting the caller that sort of torpedoed in at the end with the condemnation of macrobiotics, was at the end of the interview. So they didn't really give Dirk a chance to rebut those comments. Is that true that Michio Kushi, his daughter and Aveline Kushi had cancer? They dropped that bomb then just started talking about what Howard eats.

Weird way to end the interview.

I must admit I'm not really a fan of these type of questions either. So if you're sensitive, Melli, so am I

I never heard this news about the Kushi's before. Can't really aswer your question, Flyngirl5.

Yes, it was a weird way to end the interview - but this is Howard Stern at his finest, which was confrontational, argumentative, and occasionally obscene. I have never been a fan of his...

And yes, it's true that Michio and Avaline both had cancer (I don't know about the daughter), but as Dirk himself said in this interview, none of us have perfect constitutions and will have weaknesses in this organ or that... Howard sandbagged Dirk with that last call, not letting him respond. And in the 21 years since this interview, we've also found that most of our food supply has suffered nutritionally, through modern farming and production techniques, which is going to have a definite impact on our health.

As you may be able to tell, I'm fascinated by the subject. When I first heard about this interview (which was some time ago) I did dismiss the idea that Dirk might promote a supplement like "Beta Prostate." It just didn't seem likely. But the more I've thought about it - and read and learned - the less surprised I am to finally hear it for myself. (Although I must say the quality of this recording is pretty bad - most of it doesn't sound at all like Dirk. Or Howard, for that matter).

Anyway, like everything else, the use of supplements in Macrobiotics isn't forbidden. If your health situation demands it, supplements are perfectly appropriate to help get you back on track. Dirk says in the interview that if you're not eating a plant-based diet, you're not getting beta sitosterol - which has more far-reaching effects that just on the male prostate, FYI - so supplements could have a positive effect for many people.

And as far as I know, this was the only time Dirk ever mentioned the stuff, so it's not like he was a company shill (as the YouTube poster inferred. Infomercial, my lily-white aaaanyway.............).

Ahhh, I didn't know this was such a popular interview.

I think it was okay to allow a caller to voice an opposite opinion. I just wish Dirk had gotten the chance to reply to that. But the whole interview seemed steered. Stern only allowed Dirk to talk until he had his desired answer. And allowing Dirk to counter the caller's claims was not part of that I guess.

But I think Dirk is used to this just as any other person who is all about macrobiotics (which I am not btw). And as Dirk admittedly kind of attacks classical medicine when it comes to fighting cancer it's just bound to happen that he sails against the wind.

Me personally I think everyone should eat the way they feel comfortable with and not have to defend themselves for it all the time. If supplements help you, then that's the right thing for you to do. Simple as that.

I'm on a whole other diet myself that made me lose 50kg within half a year and still going. You just need to figure out what's best for your body. Everyone has a different body with different abilities to convert food. I figured out (with help) that carbs are the wrong approach for me so now I literally do the opposite of what Dirk does, combined with sports. And I'm taking supplements as well. I haven't felt so healthy in years (which just recently was evidenced by my excellent blood values).

Just live and let live is what I'm trying to say. There are always many solutions for a problem.

This might seem strange to say, but listening to this interview, the best way I can describe it, seemed very erratic??..... maybe it's the quality I don't know?
The host did interrupt quite a lot and I did not like the last bit where Dirk didn't get much of a chance to comment.
Anyway, everyone has different opinions and experiences. We're all unique and what works for one person, may not work for another, but don't slam someone for trying and continuing to live that lifestyle because it didn't work for you and or rubbishing something if you haven't tried it (I'm talking about the last call BTW) and bring in to the mix about Michio and Aveline Kushi and their daughter (I don't have much if any knowledge on them apart from reading CKC) having cancer because of them being macrobiotic. At the end of the day, I personally believe there are a multitude of ways that someone could get cancer I.E, genetics, diet, environmental factors etc. I also believe in a multitude of ways that cancer can be prevented/cured, and one of those ways, Dirk and many others attest to the microbiotic lifestyle. Yes Western medicine really does have its place, and treatments are more tailored to an individual, my O/H wouldn't be alive without it and I'm so grateful to it as he is which goes without saying. But, I'm also questioning western medicine, and doctors recommendation regarding a current situation with a family member, we're hoping all is okay now, they have been given treatment and they are feeling and looking well since then, but more intense treatment as if the last lot of treatment wasn't intense enough.....is being recommended as a "preventative" without knowing one way or another that something is still present....I have my own thoughts on this. Basically, we want tests and a second opinion, otherwise, my worry is, when will it end?..... Everyone should be open minded instead of mocking individuals who would rather try and live differently and try alternative medicines etc, unfortunately it's not the world we live in. Research in facts is key and what also plays an important role IMO is a certain mindset. If you truly believe and find something that will/is working for you, keep doing what you feel is right

Lol! Yes, apparently a celebrity saying, "I would recommend this product" constitutes an infomercial. Personally when I think "infomercial", I think 4 am insomniac too tired to get up for the TV remote, being subjected to an hour-long sermon about how they'd sleep like a baby if they only had a MyPillow...

I do kinda get a kick out of Howard. On occasion.

Agree with the other comments. I have no doubt that Dirk was able to cure himself of cancer by switching to the macrobiotic lifestyle. I know a many people who have gone on a macrobiotic "diet", myself included (although I've since slipped), and it made them feel
MUCH healthier. But I also agree everyone has to find the balance works for them. That's part of the whole deal and something Dirk has advocated.

Couldn't agree more
